Dharmendra Pradhan on India’s technology strength

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan addressing a technology symposium in New Delhi

NEW DELHI, Sept 23: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Tuesday said that technology is embedded in India’s DNA and called for strengthening indigenous capabilities to achieve self-reliance and maintain an edge over other nations.

Speaking at the Tri-Services Academic Technology Symposium, Pradhan cited the successes of DRDO and ISRO in the Chandrayaan mission as examples of India’s scientific strength. “If DRDO and ISRO were not strong, Chandrayaan would not have succeeded. There was no foreign help; it was our swadeshi scientists who made it possible,” he said.

Highlighting India’s digital growth, he recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Digital India initiative launched in 2014. “Back then, many doubted the vision. Today, in the global digital economy, if Rs 100 is transacted digitally, Rs 48 of it happens in India,” Pradhan noted.

He further pointed out that India has one of the highest levels of internet penetration and smartphone usage globally, which demonstrates the country’s technological potential. “We must now focus on strengthening this foundation to ensure Atmanirbharta (self-reliance),” he emphasized.
