JAIPUR, Sept 23: The Telugu Titans held their nerves to clinch a narrow 30-29 win against Gujarat Giants in a nail-biting PKL Season 12 clash at the SMS Indoor Stadium on Tuesday.
The Titans were powered by Bharat Hooda’s nine points and Vijay Malik’s seven points, which proved enough to counter a superb super-sub performance from Mohammadreza Shadloui for the Giants.
Telugu Titans started aggressively, with Malik opening the scoring and helping his side build an early 3-0 lead. The Giants, however, clawed back through raids from Visvanth V and Aryavardhan Navale, but the Titans maintained their advantage to lead 12-10 at halftime.
The Giants bounced back strongly in the second half, with Shadloui turning the game in their favour. His quick raids and the Giants’ solid defence inflicted an all out on the Titans, giving Gujarat an 18-14 lead. They maintained a slim cushion until the final phase.
Bharat then inspired a Titans comeback with a successful raid, followed by an all out that swung momentum back to the Hyderabad-based side. Malik added crucial points in the dying minutes as the Titans opened a five-point lead.
Despite a late surge from Shadloui, who picked vital points for the Giants, the Titans kept calm in the closing seconds to seal a memorable one-point victory.
The result gives Telugu Titans vital points in the league standings, boosting their campaign in the fiercely contested Pro Kabaddi League Season 12.
