Jammu, Sept 14: Heavy rainfall has once again damaged the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, prompting the authorities to suspend the movement of Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) on the route until the roadbed dries up and the stretch becomes safe for travel.
Details of the Disruption
The affected section is reportedly near Thared, Udhampur, where the wet bed has caused slippage and reduced traction. Small rocks and debris have been dislodged in some parts, raising risk of landslides. Officials say permitting HMVs through this stretch in its current condition is unsafe.
Steps Taken & Advisory
Local administration along with road maintenance agencies are assessing the damage, deploying machinery to clear debris, and inspecting drainage to accelerate drying. Commuters and transporters are advised to avoid the highway during peak rain hours and check real‐time road status from Traffic Control Units.
