JAMMU, Sept 24: Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner (Migrants), J&K, Dr. Arvind Karwani today conducted an extensive visit to Jagti Migrant Township to review the progress of ongoing developmental and welfare works.
During his visit, Dr. Karwani inspected construction activities across various camps and took note of the long-pending demand of residents for adequate water supply. Officials informed him that work on four borewells has already begun, bringing much-needed relief to the migrant families.
He also visited Higher Secondary School, Jagti, where he reviewed ongoing works and participated in Swachhata Pakhwara activities, reaffirming the department’s commitment to cleanliness and community welfare.
One of the major highlights of the visit was the distribution of NFSA ration cards among migrant families. With their inclusion in the National Food Security Act (NFSA) database, migrant families will now be able to access benefits under multiple social sector schemes, ensuring wider welfare coverage.
An awareness camp was also organized in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department to inform families about various welfare schemes and enable them to avail the benefits.
Later, a public grievance redressal camp was held at the Community Hall, Jagti, chaired by Dr. Karwani. The camp provided residents a platform to raise day-to-day issues and seek timely solutions. Interacting with the participants, Dr. Karwani assured them that all genuine concerns will be prioritized and reiterated the Government’s commitment to the welfare and rehabilitation of the migrant community.
The programme was attended by Vijay Kumar Sharma (Deputy Commissioner, Relief), Sanjeev Kumar (Assistant Commissioner, Relief), Kailash Devi (Assistant Commissioner, Relief), along with senior officers of various line departments.
