KATRA (Reasi), Sept 24: The holy town of Katra is witnessing a huge spiritual gathering as more than 32,000 devotees have visited the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine since the beginning of Navratri on Monday, officials said on Tuesday.
On average, around 12,000 to 13,000 pilgrims are offering prayers at the sacred cave daily, a Shrine Board official said. “The yatra is going on smoothly and over 32,000 registrations have already been recorded for darshan,” the official added.
The shrine and its surroundings have been beautifully decorated with flowers and lights for Navratri, while volunteers have been deployed to assist pilgrims and ensure orderly movement along the 13-km yatra route.
Special arrangements including drinking water points, medical aid stations, and enhanced crowd management have been put in place to ensure a safe and comfortable pilgrimage experience. This year, the Shrine Board has also introduced wireless communication sets to improve coordination and response along the track.
A multi-tier security grid involving police, CRPF, paramilitary forces, and quick-response teams is active throughout the Navratri festival, which will continue until October 1. Officials said security has been tightened in view of the large footfall.
The pilgrimage had resumed on September 17 after a 22-day suspension caused by a landslide on August 26, which tragically claimed 34 lives and injured 20 others. The reopening of the route has brought relief to devotees arriving from across the country.
