NIA files FIR against Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun

NIA registers fresh case against US-based Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun

NEW DELHI, Sept 23: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has booked US-based Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, the general counsel of the banned Sikhs For Justice (SFJ), for offering a reward to stop Prime Minister Narendra Modi from hoisting the national flag at the Red Fort on Independence Day and for attempting to spread disaffection among Sikhs against India.

According to the FIR, Pannun announced a bounty of Rs 11 crore for “Sikh soldiers” to prevent PM Modi from unfurling the tricolour during an event at the Lahore Press Club on August 10, where he addressed journalists virtually from Washington. He also unveiled a “Delhi Banayga Khalistan” map claiming Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Delhi as part of a separate state.

The FIR, filed under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), names Pannun and “other unknown persons.” The Home Ministry, citing the national and international implications of the case, directed the NIA to probe the larger conspiracy behind Pannun’s actions.

The Ministry noted that Pannun, a designated terrorist, has been using the SFJ platform to reject India’s sovereignty over Punjab and promote the Khalistan agenda. His actions, the FIR says, directly threaten the sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of India.
