NEW DELHI, Sept 23: India has extended the closure of its airspace to Pakistan-registered civilian and military aircraft till October 24, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation said on Tuesday. Pakistan has issued a reciprocal closure for Indian aircraft until the same date.
Both countries have been operating mutual airspace restrictions since April following the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22. Separate NOTAMs (Notices to Airmen) were issued on September 23 to formalise the extensions.
India’s NOTAM specifies that airspace will remain unavailable to Pakistan-registered aircraft and aircraft operated/owned or leased by Pakistani airlines/operators, including military flights, until 23:59 UTC on October 23 (which corresponds to 05:30 IST on October 24).
Since April 30, India has barred Pakistan-operated, -owned or -leased aircraft (civilian and military) from using its airspace as part of the response to the Pahalgam attack that killed 26 people. The latest NOTAM continues that restriction for a further month.
NOTAMs carry essential information for flight operations and are standard procedure for communicating temporary airspace restrictions and other safety-critical notices to aviators and airlines.
