PATNA, Sept 24: As the Congress Working Committee (CWC) convened its meeting in Patna, senior leader Jairam Ramesh invoked the party’s historic Ramgarh Session of 1940, while taking a sharp dig at the RSS and its stance on the Constitution.
Ramesh highlighted that at the Ramgarh Session (March 1940), the Congress had for the first time formally committed to the creation of a Constituent Assembly to draft and adopt a Constitution for an independent India. “The rest is history, including the bitter opposition of the organisation now celebrating its centenary (RSS) to the Constitution adopted on November 26, 1949,” he said.
He also referred to a slim booklet titled “Constituent Assembly and Our Demand” authored by Jai Gopal Narang, which carried a foreword by Jawaharlal Nehru, one of the strongest advocates of a Constituent Assembly.
The remarks came as the Congress’ top brass, including party president Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, gathered in Patna to chalk out strategy for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections and to intensify the attack on the BJP over alleged “vote chori”.
The extended CWC meet was attended by permanent and special invitees, party chief ministers, PCC presidents, and CLP leaders, marking a significant moment for Congress’ organizational and electoral push in Bihar.
