
JAMMU, Sept 23: The historic Akhnoor Dangal drew massive crowds at the revered shrine of Pir Baba Faiz Bakhsh Bukhari in Gurha Brahmana (Akhnoor), featuring top national and international wrestlers in action.
The chief guest, MLA Akhnoor Mohan Lal, praised the event’s cultural importance, highlighting its role in promoting unity, tradition and sportsmanship. He said wrestling tournaments are a vital part of heritage and inspire youth towards positive engagement.
The main bout (Ist Malia), carrying a prize of Rs 1.50 lakh, saw Hamid from Iran edge past Chhota Saddam of Punjab in a gripping contest. The second big bout, also worth Rs 1.50 lakh, went in favour of Abhinayak from Uttar Pradesh, who defeated Chirag from Delhi. In another highlight, Lovepreet of Khanna clinched a Rs 1 lakh prize after defeating Ballu from Maharashtra.
The day-long wrestling festival featured over 100 bouts, organized under the leadership of Chairman Yashpal Sharma, with active support from Sarpanch Shamsher Singh and local committee members.
