Itoo’s Remarks

Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, Itoo accused Ruhullah of unnecessarily targeting the NC-led Government over the prolonged closure of the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway. “He himself contested from the NC ticket and has been elected by the people to speak for them in Parliament. Instead of pointing fingers at us, he should raise those issues in the Parliament which he feels are crucial for the people,” Itoo said. She added that the MP should “fulfil his duty as a Parliamentarian” instead of criticising the Government at home.

Ruhullah’s Response

Reacting sharply on X (formerly Twitter), Ruhullah said those who had “bowed in obedience” could not understand the struggle of those resisting oppression. “Since their servility may not allow them to follow Parliament or read official communications, we will gladly courier a compilation of speeches, interventions and updates to their desks,” Ruhullah wrote. He claimed that his interventions on the floor of Parliament are a matter of public record and accessible on Lok Sabha TV and RTI.

Issues Raised by Ruhullah

The MP listed several issues he had taken up in Parliament, including the weakening of Kashmir’s apple and horticulture sector, repeated detentions, encroachments on Waqf properties, and concerns over infrastructure in roads, railways, and health. He added that he had facilitated the installation of CT scan machines in district hospitals and disbursed over ₹5 crore under the MPLADS fund. Ruhullah also said he had met Union Home Minister Amit Shah for the release of detainees and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for highway expansion, securing the extension of the expressway up to Sonamarg.

Defending His Role

The MP highlighted his efforts in helping hundreds of patients secure relief from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF). “As for the unsolicited advice to ‘talk’, your obedience to the oppressor may have earned you comfort, but it left us Kashmiris alone in the far harder task of challenging that very power,” he wrote, targeting Itoo without naming her directly.
