India and Bangladesh set for Asia Cup Super 4 battle in Dubai
DUBAI, Sept 23: After overpowering Pakistan in a tense encounter, Team India will look to continue their momentum when they face Bangladesh in an Asia Cup Super 4 clash on Wednesday, where spin is expected to play a decisive role.
While statistics favour India — Bangladesh have only one win in 17 T20 meetings — the format’s unpredictability and Bangladesh’s better spin attack could make it a tighter contest. Mustafizur Rahman, along with spinners Rishad Hossain and Mahedi Hasan, remain Bangladesh’s best hopes to restrict India.
For India, Abhishek Sharma is in red-hot form with a strike rate of 210, while Shubman Gill has lifted his rate to 158. In comparison, Bangladesh’s leading batters Litton Das and Towhid Hridoy have modest numbers.
One concern for India is Tilak Varma’s struggle against spin. Analytics show his strike rate against slow bowlers dropped from 190+ in 2024 to just 115 in 2025. Along with Sanju Samson, Tilak will need to step up in the middle order if India faces a collapse.
Bangladesh will likely prefer to bowl first, hoping to restrict India to around 150-160, a chaseable total for their lineup. However, India’s superior batting depth, combined with spin duo Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel, gives them a clear edge.
Match starts at 8 pm IST at Dubai International Stadium.
