Jammu, Sept 14: Police have booked eight persons in connection with a fake-job racket that allegedly duped applicants of about Rs 3.11 crore, authorities said on Sunday. The case came to light after multiple victims lodged complaints alleging they were promised government and private jobs in return for money.
How the Racket Worked
According to police sources, the accused allegedly ran a sophisticated operation, convincing job-seekers to transfer fees, “training” charges and other payments on the promise of placement. Victims were reportedly asked to pay in instalments and were shown forged appointment letters and fake documents to build credibility.
FIR Registered, Investigation Ongoing
Following the complaints, an FIR was registered and a detailed probe launched. Investigators are tracing banking transactions, phone records and digital trails to map the network and establish how the money was collected and routed. Several mobile phones, documents, and digital evidence were seized during searches, the police said.
Legal Action & Next Steps
The accused have been booked under relevant provisions of the law relating to cheating, fraud and criminal conspiracy. Police teams are coordinating with banking and cyber cells to freeze suspect accounts and recover funds where possible. Further arrests and action are expected as the investigation progresses.
Advice to Job-Seekers
Authorities reiterated standard precautions: verify recruitment agencies and official channels, insist on written contracts from legitimate employers, cross-check appointment letters with employers directly, and avoid paying large sums upfront for promised placements. Victims are urged to immediately approach the nearest police station and preserve transaction records and communications.
