Srinagar, Sept 14: Education Minister Sakeena Itoo said today that the government has invited suggestions from parents, teachers, students and other stakeholders to compensate for the academic losses students have suffered due to repeated disruptions in school functioning.
Reasons Behind Loss of Classroom Time
Itoo noted that schools have been shut on multiple occasions this year — first due to a war-like situation, followed by severe floods. These disruptions have significantly affected completion of the academic syllabus.
Steps Proposed to Address the Losses
The minister said the government is considering various relief measures, including reducing the syllabus by about 15-20%, introducing open choice in examinations instead of deleting specific topics, or other academic concessions that are practical and feasible.
School Damage Adds to Problem
At least 40 schools were heavily damaged during the floods — filled with mud and silt — and are still being restored. Their delayed reopening has compounded the academic losses.
