The Incident

On September 8, Banihal Police received information about three bodies recovered from a culvert along NH-44 at Ratanwas village, about 3 km from Banihal towards Ramban. The victims were identified as Dhanwantri Devi, wife of late Nand Kishore of Champaran (Bihar), and her two children — Suhani Kumari (9) and Yash Kumar (5). Their bodies were shifted to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Banihal for post-mortem by a Board of Doctors.

Investigation & Breakthrough

SSP Ramban Arun Gupta said police suspected that the culprits used the railway route to dispose of the bodies. CCTV footage from Khari and Banihal railway stations showed an unidentified man travelling with the victims on September 6. Further leads emerged after local drivers were questioned. One driver informed police that he had ferried the accused with the victims to Chamalwas area and had been paid via UPI. Tracking the digital trail of the payment helped police identify the accused.
