Vehicle Linked to UAPA Case Seized in J&K's Anantnag

Srinagar, September 5, 2025 — A vehicle was confiscated in Anantnag district on Friday as part of ongoing investigations under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), officials confirmed. The vehicle is owned by Muzakir Mohi-ud-Din Shah of Takia Hugam in the Srigufwara area, who is the nephew of accused Firdous Ahmad Bhat, linked to the FIR registered at Mattan Police Station.

The vehicle has been connected to Case No. 57/2024, which involves serious charges filed under multiple laws including the UAPA, the Arms Act, the Explosive Substances Act, and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. It was seized under Section 25(1) of the UAPA as “proceeds of terrorism.” Police have issued notices prohibiting its sale, lease, or transfer pending further legal proceedings.

Context & Significance

This seizure underlines the government's continued efforts to dismantle support systems that facilitate extremist activities. Attaching vehicles linked to suspects is a critical enforcement step, aimed at choking financial or logistical channels that empower unlawful acts.

Legal Framework

Under Section 25(1) of the UAPA, authorities can attach property identified as being involved in terrorist or unlawful activity. The attached items remain under state control while legal proceedings unfold. This measure serves both law enforcement and national security interests.
