Police at Srinagar Passport Office after suspicious object found

SRINAGAR, Sept 24: Panic gripped the area near the Passport Office in Srinagar on Wednesday when a suspicious object was found, but police later confirmed it was merely firecrackers left behind from a nearby marriage function.

In an official statement, Srinagar Police said that the area was immediately cordoned off and a Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was rushed to the spot. “The material was safely defused after examination and confirmed to be firecrackers,” police said.

Authorities reminded the public that the use of firecrackers containing harmful chemicals has been banned by the Supreme Court and the National Green Tribunal (NGT). “Any violation will invite legal action under law,” the statement read.

The police also cautioned citizens against spreading rumours, warning that strict action will be taken against those found responsible for creating panic through misinformation.
