Conference of Anti-Narcotics Task Force

Addressing the second national conference of heads of Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of States and Union Territories, organised by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Shah said cartels must be targeted at every level — from large-scale smugglers at entry points to local networks selling drugs in small packets at kiosks and paan shops.

Targeting Global Drug Syndicates

Shah emphasized the need to bring to justice those running drug cartels from abroad. He appealed to ANTF officials to collaborate with the CBI to pursue extradition of such fugitives, which he said would also help in dismantling terror networks linked to narcotics trade.

Statistics and Achievements

Highlighting the government’s efforts, Shah noted that drugs worth over Rs 1.65 lakh crore have been seized under the NDA government in the past decade, compared to Rs 40,000 crore during the UPA regime. However, he stressed that the ultimate goal is not numbers but creating an India free of drug abuse.

Vision for a Developed India

Reiterating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making India a fully developed nation by 2047, Shah said protecting the youth from drugs is central to achieving that goal. “Our young generation is the foundation of our future, and saving them from the menace of drugs is a national priority,” he asserted.

Destruction of Seized Narcotics

At the event, Shah also launched the process to destroy 1.37 lakh kg of narcotics worth Rs 4,794 crore. He released the NCB’s annual report for 2024 and lauded its coordination with other agencies including the GST department, Income Tax authorities, and financial institutions to expose drug diversion networks.
