Punjab Police seizes foreign-made arms in Fazilka

Chandigarh, Sept 15: Punjab Police announced on Monday that it has busted a cross-border weapon smuggling module with links to Pakistan, arresting two people and seizing a cache of arms and ammunition in Fazilka district.

Two Arrested, Arms Recovered

Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav confirmed that Fazilka Police, acting on a specific intelligence input, carried out the operation. Two accused, Surinder Singh and Gurpreet, were arrested during the raid.

The police recovered five foreign-made pistols and nine magazines from the accused. “Preliminary investigation indicates that the weapons were sourced from Pakistan through a foreign-based entity for use by criminal gangs in Punjab,” Yadav said in a post on social media platform X.

Smuggling Network Under Probe

According to the DGP, the arrested accused were attempting to deliver the consignment to local operatives of criminal groups on the directions of their foreign handlers. An FIR under the Arms Act has been registered at the Sadar Police Station in Fazilka.

“Further investigation is underway to expose and dismantle the entire network, including its backward and forward linkages,” Yadav added.
