Traditional crafts from J&K and Ladakh feature in PM Mementos e-Auction 2025

The 7th edition of the PM Mementos e-Auction, organized by the Ministry of Culture through the National Gallery of Modern Art, Delhi, has placed a spotlight on Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, with 76 items from these Union Territories included in the collection.

The e-auction, live on www.pmmementos.gov.in from September 17 to October 2, 2025, features 71 items from J&K and 5 items from Ladakh, representing the regions’ rich cultural, artistic and spiritual heritage.

Highlights from Jammu & Kashmir

Among the standout items from Jammu and Kashmir are:

  • Ivory-Coloured Pashmina Shawl with Sozni Embroidery: Handwoven with intricate needlework featuring floral and vine motifs, embodying generations of Kashmiri craftsmanship.
  • Kani Pashmina Shawl: Woven on handlooms using traditional ‘Kanis’ (wooden needles), these shawls reflect Kashmir’s landscape-inspired patterns and take months to complete.

Highlights from Ladakh

Special contributions from Ladakh include:

  • Thangka Painting Scroll: Depicting Shakyamuni Buddha in Bhumisparsha Mudra, a fine example of Himalayan art blending meditation, devotion and philosophy.
  • Brass Surai: Featuring floral motifs and delicate craftsmanship, the piece exemplifies Ladakh’s superior metal artistry.

Overall, the PM Mementos e-Auction 2025 features over 1,300 items, ranging from regional crafts and paintings to sculptures and sports memorabilia. Proceeds from the auction will go towards the Namami Gange Project, the Government of India’s flagship initiative to rejuvenate the river Ganga.
