Poonch, Sept 19: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) today arrested a Patwari of Patwar Halqa Shahpur in Poonch district while accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000.

An ACB official said the bureau had received a complaint against Patwari Jameel Ahmed Bhat, who allegedly demanded Rs 20,000 for processing compensation papers after the complainant’s house was damaged in recent heavy rains.

Unable to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB seeking action. Following this, a case was registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act at ACB Police Station Rajouri.

During the investigation, officials laid a trap and caught the Patwari red-handed while accepting Rs 15,000 from the complainant. He was immediately arrested, and searches were subsequently conducted at his residence, the official said.

The ACB confirmed that further investigation into the matter is underway.
