Tarun Chugh slams NC and PDP over Yasin Malik remarks

JAMMU, Sept 23: BJP National General Secretary and J&K Prabhari Tarun Chugh today strongly criticized the National Conference (NC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for what he called their “politics of hypocrisy” in showing a soft corner towards JKLF chief Yasin Malik.

Chugh said the recent remarks of former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah that Malik had given up violence amounted to “treachery against the nation.” He reminded Abdullah that Yasin Malik became a dreaded terrorist during the tenure of his father Farooq Abdullah, and was involved in heinous crimes, including the abduction of Rubaiya Sayeed. “Now suddenly Omar Abdullah is condoning Yasin Malik’s terrorist past, which is a shameful attempt to whitewash his crimes,” he remarked.

He also condemned PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti for pleading clemency for Malik, stating that her stand reflects “political desperation” and a “disconnect with the pain and suffering of Kashmir’s daughters.” Chugh recalled that the abduction of Rubaiya Sayeed was a traumatic event for Kashmir and the demand for strict punishment against Malik remains strong.

The BJP leader alleged that NC has a long history of siding with separatists and terrorists, citing past support for Syed Salahuddin and others who fuelled militancy in Jammu and Kashmir. “It is ironic that the same party which repeatedly encouraged terrorists is now trying to defend them. Such appeasement politics must be exposed and condemned,” Chugh asserted.

Urging stringent action, Chugh said the Government must ensure justice for Rubaiya Sayeed and her family and hold accountable those responsible for suffering in Kashmir. He reiterated that there can be “no mercy for terrorists who waged war against the nation and inflicted untold pain on innocents.”
