Mufti Demands Meaningful, Result-Oriented J&K Assembly Session

Mehbooba Mufti addressing media on J&K Assembly session agenda

PDP president Mehbooba Mufti calls for meaningful discussions in the upcoming Assembly session.

SRINAGAR, Sept 24: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has called for a meaningful and result-oriented Assembly session, urging focused discussions on the losses suffered by Kashmir’s horticulture and tourism sectors.

Addressing reporters at the PDP headquarters, Mufti stressed that the House must deliberate on compensation for horticulture losses caused by highway closures and support measures for tourism stakeholders affected after the Pahalgam incident.

“This session should not be like the ones we have seen before. It must be meaningful and result-oriented,” she said, adding that measures to revive the tourism sector should be a priority until it fully recovers.

Mufti also demanded a discussion on the Public Safety Act (PSA), saying its rampant and indiscriminate use — even against elected representatives — must be debated in the Assembly. She emphasized that while the Government may not repeal the PSA, there must be serious legislative debate about its misuse.

The PDP chief further reiterated her call for the regularization of daily wagers, describing it as a “burning issue” that needs urgent attention. “We had brought a resolution, but it was sidelined. These issues cannot be ignored,” she said.

Mufti also urged that discussions be held on the legal rights of prisoners, their access to legal aid, and ensuring they are shifted back to jails within J&K.
