Security Grid Strengthened
Shah made the remarks during a meeting with Leader of Opposition in the J&K Assembly, Sunil Sharma, who called on him in New Delhi to brief him about the prevailing political situation and devastation caused by recent floods, cloudbursts, and landslides. Shah asserted that the security forces have been given a free hand to pursue terrorists, adding that “there will be no let-up in finishing terrorism and its support structure.”
Support for Development and Disaster Relief
Assuring the people of J&K of the Centre’s full backing, the Home Minister said the BJP-led Government has already undertaken several steps for the development of the Union Territory. He also highlighted the government’s focus on enhancing disaster preparedness in the wake of recent natural calamities that caused large-scale destruction, particularly in the Jammu region.
Sharma Flags Local Concerns
Sunil Sharma, during his interaction with Shah, alleged that the current National Conference Government in J&K is “totally non-serious” about public issues and has failed to address basic problems. He cited poor road conditions, closure of link roads, and prolonged connectivity disruptions in several parts of the UT, particularly in Jammu.
Sharma also demanded strengthening of the security grid in Jammu region, noting the recent presence of terrorists in forested areas. While he refrained from discussing a relief package for flood victims—stating that it would be announced by the Prime Minister after surveys—he submitted a ground assessment report on the damage to Shah.
Call for Long-Term Measures
Highlighting his visits to flood-hit areas, Sharma reported severe damage to infrastructure, homes, and crops, along with the displacement of families. He stressed the need for coordinated relief, rehabilitation, and long-term climate-resilient infrastructure, including stronger disaster response mechanisms and early warning systems. He also apprised Shah of BJP cadres’ relief efforts in affected areas.
Centre-UT Collaboration Emphasised
Sharma expressed gratitude to Shah for his guidance and support, reaffirming the need for close cooperation between the Centre and UT administration to ensure peace, stability, and development in J&K. He emphasised timely relief for flood-hit communities alongside sustained efforts to root out terrorism.
- Key Message: Centre committed to dismantling terror ecosystem in J&K.
- Security: Forces given full freedom to act against terrorists.
- Disaster Relief: Centre assures support for flood-hit areas in Jammu region.
