Katra (J&K), Sept 18: The pilgrimage to the Mata Vaishnodevi cave shrine resumed on Thursday morning after being briefly suspended on Wednesday evening due to inclement weather, officials said.

According to official sources, the yatra restarted early in the morning and by 7:30 pm, a total of 2,688 pilgrims had been registered for their onward journey to the shrine via the Tarakot track. The pilgrimage was reported to be progressing smoothly until the latest updates.

Background

The pilgrimage had earlier resumed on Wednesday following a 22-day suspension caused by landslides and heavy rainfall. However, it was halted later the same day due to deteriorating weather conditions. With improvement in weather, authorities permitted the yatra to resume on Thursday.

Chopper Services Affected

Officials added that the helicopter service operating between the base camp Katra and Sanjhi Chhat near the Bhawan was suspended after a few sorties on Thursday, as weather conditions were found unsuitable for safe flying.
