SRINAGAR, Sept 21: National Conference president Farooq Abdullah on Sunday called for an urgent push to nurture peace, understanding and unity in an “increasingly fractured and polarised world,” while extending greetings on the International Day of Peace.

“Peace is not merely the absence of conflict; it is the presence of justice, dignity and opportunity for all,” he said, urging people to rise above hatred, intolerance and violence and to prioritise dialogue over discord.

Reflecting on the resilience of Jammu and Kashmir’s people, Abdullah said the region has endured prolonged uncertainty and unrest, yet its citizens have continued to persevere. “It is our collective duty to ensure that the voices of peace overpower the echoes of division,” he added, urging citizens to stand together beyond differences for a future grounded in compassion, mutual respect and religious tolerance.

Addressing the youth, Abdullah said the younger generation holds the key to building lasting harmony. “I urge them to build bridges of understanding and to resist the forces that seek to divide us,” he said, calling on young people to lead efforts for coexistence.
