CRPF Firmly Stands With Kashmir People: DG GP Singh

SRINAGAR, Sept 23: Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), GP Singh, today reaffirmed that the force stands firmly with the people of Kashmir in every situation, assuring them of CRPF’s support during both joy and sorrow.

Speaking at Lal Chowk before flagging off the third edition of the Yashasvini High-Altitude CRPF Bike Expedition, Singh said, “Being here in the historic land of Kashmir fills me with joy and pride. I want to assure the people of Kashmir that whenever you need us, the CRPF will always be there.”

Paying homage to martyrs of the 2001 Parliament attack, Singh saluted their sacrifice and especially honoured CRPF’s Ashoka Chakra awardee, Kamlesh Kumari. He later flagged off the all-women expedition comprising 36 bikers, embarking on a seven-day, 1,400-km journey from Lal Chowk to Pangong Tso and back via Khardung La.

The DG lauded the women riders, calling them “torchbearers of the CRPF” who embody courage and determination. “They will ride through extreme altitudes and freezing conditions, but their spirit reflects the force’s resilience,” he said.

Highlighting the symbolic importance, Singh said the expedition represents CRPF’s six decades of contribution to internal security. “Flagging it off from Kashmir’s Lal Chowk is a matter of pride and honour,” he noted.

Singh also interacted with Veer Naris and families of martyrs at the event, assuring them of every possible support. “Their courage and sacrifice inspire us to serve with greater dedication,” he said.

The Yashasvini expedition is the third in CRPF’s Mahila Bike Expedition series. The first was held in March 2023 from Delhi to Jagdalpur, followed by the second in September 2023 covering Srinagar, Shillong, Kanyakumari and Kevadia.

On their way to Kargil, the first stopover, the women bikers received a warm welcome at Manigam in Ganderbal. Participant Seema Nath said the ride aims to send out the message that “women are no less than anyone.” Another rider, Sheikh Kajal Ilahi from Maharashtra, said: “People should take inspiration from us. It will be tough, but we are determined to finish.”
