CBI team apprehended JKAS officer in Srinagar on bribery charges

Srinagar, Sept 19: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today arrested a Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service (JKAS) officer red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 in Srinagar.

The officer has been identified as Sarfaraz Ahmad Bhat, posted as State Sales Tax Officer at the Silk Factory office in Solina. Officials said he was caught during a trap operation set up by CBI teams following a complaint of bribery.

“The officer was taken into custody immediately after the transaction, and the bribe money was recovered from him,” a CBI official said. He added that Bhat had recently been posted at the Solina office, after being shifted from Shopian due to similar complaints.

A case has been registered in this regard, and further investigation is underway.
