
Anti-Corruption Bureau apprehends two PDD employees at Pantha Chowk during a sting operation
Srinagar, Sept 17: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) today arrested two employees of the Power Development Department (PDD) for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 50,000 to realign an electric pole installed on a complainant’s property at Sempora, Pantha Chowk. The accused were caught red-handed and the cash was recovered on the spot, the bureau said.

Employees Identified
The arrested officials have been identified as Junior Engineer Shaiq Sultan Bhat (son of Gh. Nabi Bhat) of Sanat Nagar, Srinagar, and Sectional Officer Mohammad Ayoub Dar (son of Gh. Nabi Dar) of Sail, tehsil Awantipora, Pulwama. Both are posted at the PDD Division, Pantha Chowk.
Complaint, Verification & Trap
Following a written complaint alleging demand of bribe, ACB Srinagar conducted discreet verification through a designated officer. The verification report and recommendations led to registration of FIR No. 18/2025 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 read with Section 61(2) of the BNS at Police Station ACB Srinagar, and an investigation was launched.
Thereafter, a trap team was deployed at Pantha Chowk. The team reportedly apprehended both public servants while they were demanding and accepting the bribe; the Rs 50,000 was recovered from their possession.
Investigation Continues
The ACB said further investigation is underway to examine the case details and any larger nexus. The bureau added that appropriate legal action will follow based on the ongoing probe.
