Singhania University Launches Special Admission & Scholarship Drive for Migrant Students
Jammu, Sept 11: Singhania University (SU) has announced a targeted admission and scholarship programme aimed at migrant students and economically disadvantaged youth across Jammu & Kashmir. The initiative — unveiled during a meeting between SU representatives and the Relief Commissioner (Migrants) — intends to open higher-education opportunities to students living in migrant camps as well as disadvantaged families across the UT.
Who will benefit?
The scheme covers students residing in migrant settlements such as Jagti, Nagrota, Purkhoo, Muthi, Mishriwala and other border migrant families, including Kashmiri Pandit children still in the Valley. SU said economically weaker students from elsewhere in Jammu & Kashmir will also be eligible for financial assistance and fee concessions.
Scholarship details
SU outlined a performance-linked scholarship matrix: students scoring 85% and above in qualifying examinations will receive a 100% scholarship plus a monthly stipend of ₹2,100. Those scoring between 75–84% will be eligible for a 50% scholarship and a ₹1,100 monthly stipend. Students scoring below 75% will be considered for special fee concessions and merit- or sports-based scholarships. Additionally, all female candidates will receive a flat 35% tuition fee concession.
Courses & admissions
The university said admission will be open across a wide range of programmes, including B.Tech and Diploma courses in engineering disciplines (AI, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Mining), B.A. LL.B (Hons.) recognised by the Bar Council of India, Diploma in Architectural Assistance recognised by the Council of Architecture, and over 100 other academic programmes. SU officials asked the Relief Commissioner to support organising an admission and scholarship camp in Jammu for spot selections of eligible students.
Officials’ response
The Relief Commissioner welcomed the initiative and assured full cooperation to facilitate the camp and outreach to migrant communities. University delegates who led the talks included Pro President & CFO Sunil Kumar Sobti and Neha Tyagi from Jhunjhunu.
