JAMMU, Sept 21: National Conference (NC) additional general secretary and former Minister Ajay Kumar Sadhotra has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of “betraying the people of Jammu” and resorting to “negative politics” to hide its failures.

In a sharp statement, Sadhotra said that despite receiving an unprecedented mandate, the BJP has left the people of Jammu “disillusioned and angry.” He alleged that even during the recent devastation caused by floods, cloudbursts, landslides and continuous rains, the BJP remained focused on “optics” rather than real relief measures. “Even Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s much-publicized visit failed to bring substantial relief,” he said.
Sadhotra charged that the BJP did not even demand a special financial package for flood victims, calling it a clear sign of “misplaced priorities.” Instead of standing with the people, the party chose to attack the NC as a “diversionary tactic,” he added.
He claimed that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s ongoing outreach programme has rekindled hope among affected families, something that has “unsettled” the BJP. “Omar’s connect with the victims is exposing their irrelevance on the ground,” Sadhotra remarked.
The NC leader further warned that anger is “simmering” among youth, farmers, traders and flood-affected families, who feel cheated by BJP’s inaction. “The party that called itself the ‘voice of Jammu’ now stands exposed as a slogan-driven machine,” he asserted.
Reaffirming NC’s commitment, Sadhotra said his party’s legacy is deeply linked with the struggles of Jammu and Kashmir’s people, unlike the BJP which, he alleged, “runs on rhetoric.” He concluded by saying the politics of deception “cannot last forever” and the people will soon hold the BJP accountable.
