Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, Abdullah alleged that since the BJP failed to form a government in J&K, the Centre was withholding Statehood. This is unfair. Nowhere was it said that if results are in favour of the BJP, only then will Statehood be given,
he said.
The Chief Minister recalled that the Centre had assured the Supreme Court of a three-step process: delimitation, elections, and Statehood. Delimitation took place, elections were conducted with enthusiastic participation, but because the BJP could not win, Statehood is being denied. This is an injustice,
he remarked.
Tourism Concerns Post-Pahalgam Attack
Omar acknowledged that the tourism sector continues to suffer after the April Pahalgam attack. We had hoped for a revival, especially with Puja season bringing visitors from Bengal, but numbers are below expectations. Efforts will continue,
he said.
‘I Love Muhammad’ Controversy
On the FIRs filed in Kanpur against people displaying I Love Muhammad
boards, Abdullah criticized the move. How can writing these three words be a reason for arrest? Our Sikh brothers write about their gurus, Hindus about their gods. Why can’t people here express their love for Muhammad?
he asked, urging courts to resolve the issue quickly.
Government Outreach & Opposition Criticism
The CM highlighted his government’s outreach initiative, aimed at directly addressing citizens’ grievances on welfare, development, and transfers. This programme has been very successful, and we are working to strengthen it further,
he said.
Responding to criticism from the BJP’s Leader of Opposition, Abdullah said, The LOP’s role is to oppose. We do not expect them to praise us. Their criticism only shows that our government is working effectively.
