Defence Minister Rajnath Singh addressing the Hyderabad Liberation Day event in Hyderabad.

HYDERABAD, Sept 17: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh today rejected claims that Operation Sindoor was halted due to third-party intervention, saying the action against terrorists was not suspended at anyone’s behest and would resume if required.

Operation Sindoor: No Third-Party Halt

Speaking at the Hyderabad Liberation Day event, Rajnath clarified that suggestions claiming the operation was stopped because of external mediation were incorrect. He emphasised that the campaign was paused after Pakistan repeatedly sought a ceasefire, but it was not suspended as a result of any third-party intervention.

India’s Right to Respond

Rajnath asserted that India acts on its own terms and will resume offensive operations should terrorists strike again. He highlighted previous calibrated actions — including the 2016 surgical strikes and the 2019 Balakot air strike — as examples of India’s readiness to respond decisively to threats to its security.

JeM Commander’s Admission, Sovereignty Stressed

The Defence Minister referred to a video in which a Jaish-e-Mohammed commander reportedly admitted that members of Maulana Masood Azhar’s family were killed in the Indian missile strikes during Operation Sindoor. He said such admissions and India’s actions underline the country’s growing capacity to protect its sovereignty.

Historical Context and Message

Drawing parallels to Hyderabad’s liberation history, Rajnath recalled Razakar atrocities and said the message of Hyderabad Liberation Day was one of national unity and resolve. He stressed that the reference to Razakars was aimed at condemning anti-nation thinking, not any specific community.

Event & Attendees

The Hyderabad event featured the unfurling of the national flag and a parade by central forces. Union ministers and senior officials, including Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, G Kishan Reddy and MoS (Home) Sanjay Kumar, were present.
