SRINAGAR, Sept 24: Police on Wednesday arrested a man from South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on intelligence inputs for his alleged role in providing logistical support to terrorists involved in the April 22 Pahalgam attack, officials said.
The accused has been identified as Mohd Yousuf Katari (26), the police statement said. He was detained after a targeted operation following an intelligence lead. Authorities described him as an Over Ground Worker (OGW) who assisted the terrorists responsible for the Pahalgam incident.
The April 22 attack in Pahalgam earlier this year left 26 people — largely tourists — dead and triggered a major security response. In a July 29 operation named Operation Mahadev, Army para commandos eliminated three terrorists on the outskirts of Srinagar who were linked to that attack. The three were identified as Sulieman alias Asif (believed to be the mastermind), Jibran and Hamza Afghani. Jibran is also accused of involvement in the October 2024 Sonamarg Tunnel attack.
Police said Katari’s arrest is part of continuing efforts to dismantle the support networks that enable terrorist operations. Investigations are underway and further action will be taken based on the evidence recovered during interrogation and searches, the officials added.
Local authorities have not yet disclosed details of the evidence seized or whether more arrests are expected. The probe is progressing in coordination with other security agencies, sources said.
