Nana Patekar meets families affected by Pakistani shelling in Rajouri
RAJOURI, Sept 22: Veteran Bollywood actor Nana Patekar turned emotional on Monday as he met families affected by Pakistani shelling in Rajouri. Representing his NGO, the Nirmala Gajanan Foundation (NGF), he distributed relief material worth Rs 42 lakh to the victims.
During his visit to border areas of Poonch and Rajouri, Patekar interacted with residents who bore the brunt of heavy cross-border shelling during Operation Sindoor in May this year. He announced that he would personally sponsor the education of an 11-year-old girl who lost her father, Amreek Singh, in the attack.

Altogether, 117 families received assistance for loss of life and property. “It is a small contribution for our people who suffered simply because they live on the border. They should know they are not alone,” Patekar said, flanked by GOC 25th Infantry Division Maj Gen Kaushik Mukherjee and Deputy Commissioner Rajouri Abhishek Sharma.
He also appealed to society: “It is our responsibility to adopt at least one affected family instead of relying only on the Government.” Patekar named fellow actors Amitabh Bachchan and Johnny Lever as philanthropists who have also extended support.
A Padma Shri awardee, Patekar revealed that his NGO has adopted 48 Army Goodwill Schools across Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh to improve education standards. He recalled that he had also visited forward areas during the 1999 Kargil War to support troops.
When asked about healthcare facilities for border residents, he said setting up a hospital was easy but maintaining it was the real challenge. On the poor condition of the Jammu–Rajouri–Poonch highway, he assured to take up the matter in Delhi for urgent repair and better amenities for locals.
