Mufti Slams NC’s AIIMS Criticism, Cites PDP’s Development Record in South Kashmir

Srinagar, Sept 9: PDP president and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti sharply criticised the National Conference government’s negative remarks regarding the location of AIIMS at Awantipora. Addressing the issue in an “X” post, she accused NC of demonstrating “indifference and apathy toward South Kashmir.”

Development Record Under PDP

Mufti underscored that under the PDP-headed government led by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, South Kashmir witnessed rapid infrastructural developments—including the establishment of the Islamic University of Science & Technology, a university campus, a medical college, and the AIIMS itself within a short span.

“In contrast,” she said, “despite decades in power, the NC cannot point to a single comparable project in this region.” She warned that NC’s current criticism only masks a political bias, adding that:“Their criticism of AIIMS's location only reflects their indifference and apathy toward South Kashmir.”

South and North Divide?

Mufti further accused NC of favouring its traditional strongholds by often choosing flood-prone areas for important projects. She argued that, unlike NC’s politically motivated site selections, PDP prioritized locations based on public interest rather than political gain.
