MLA Dr. Bharat Bhushan Assures Relief to Bagra Cloudburst Victims

Kathua, Sept 5: Kathua MLA Dr. Bharat Bhushan today visited Bagra village in Janglote Panchayat, which was devastated by a cloudburst on August 16 that claimed two lives and injured several others. He trekked nearly four kilometers to reach the remote hamlet and inspected four fully damaged and six partially damaged houses.

Immediate Relief Efforts

The MLA and his team distributed ration and essential supplies to 11 most-affected families. He also took note of the power outage in the village — despite earlier distribution of solar lights, only four units were available for 16 households, proving insufficient. He directed the Power Department to expedite restoration and assured that electricity supply would be resumed within the next two days.

PM’s Concern and Government’s Support

Dr. Bhushan emphasized that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is deeply concerned about the tragedy and that the Union Government is committed to ensuring full relief and rehabilitation for affected families. He promised coordinated support for reconstruction and long-term solutions.

Need for Proper Assessment

The MLA urged the district administration to conduct a detailed damage assessment to facilitate timely compensation and rehabilitation schemes. He also recommended geological safety inspections of upper slopes and coordination with local bodies to prevent future calamities.

Voices from the Ground

Villagers expressed relief at receiving immediate assistance but stressed the need for permanent safety measures. An elderly resident remarked: “We are grateful for the help, but the government must ensure that we don’t have to live through such disasters again.”
