Jal Shakti Ministry Reviews Jal Jeevan Mission & Swachh Bharat Mission in Ladakh
Leh, Sept 11: A comprehensive review meeting on the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and Swachh Bharat Mission Grameen (SBMG) was held in Leh under the chairmanship of Kamal Kishore Soan, Additional Secretary & Mission Director (NJJM & SBMG), Ministry of Jal Shakti.
Detailed Presentations on JJM & SBM
The meeting began with a presentation by Norboo Tundup, IEC Expert, JJM-PMU, who shared updates on ongoing initiatives, observations from the Central Nodal Officer, and data dump analysis. He also reviewed water quality monitoring, laboratory accreditation, and grievance redressal mechanisms under JJM Ladakh.
The second presentation, delivered by Sajjad Qadri, Mission Director, SBM, outlined progress on Open Defecation Free Plus (ODF+), Solid Waste Management, and Liquid Waste Management. The utilisation of SBM funds for FY 2025–26 was also discussed in detail.
Focus on Sustainability & Digital Integration
Addressing the gathering, Kamal Kishore Soan emphasised the need for source sustainability and groundwater recharge structures through convergence. He instructed officials to ensure Panchayat Secretaries are onboarded on the e-Gram Swaraj portal and directed updates to the SWSM dashboard regarding Action Taken Reports on CNO’s observations.
Upcoming Campaigns & Achievements
The Ministry highlighted the rollout of the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva–Swachhotsav’ campaign scheduled for 17th September. The AS & MD commended the departments, noting that Ladakh is close to achieving saturation of Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs) under JJM and model villages under SBMG.

The meeting saw participation from DC/CEO LAHDC Kargil Rakesh Kumar, Director Rural Development & Panchayat Raj Sajjad Qadri, senior engineers of PHE/I&FC, district planning officers, BDOs, and other officials. Officers outside Leh joined virtually.
