MIET Establishes J&K’s First Cyber-Physical Systems Lab in Collaboration with IIT Ropar

JAMMU, Sept 26: The Model Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET) today inaugurated a cutting-edge Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) Lab at its Kot Bhalwal Campus in collaboration with iHub-AWaDH, IIT Ropar.

Prof. Ankur Gupta (Director MIET) and Dr. Mukesh Kestwal (iHub-AWaDH, IIT Ropar) inaugurating J&K’s first Cyber-Physical Systems Lab.

This facility is the 17th CPS Lab established nationwide under the Government of India’s National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS) and is the first of its kind in Jammu & Kashmir. It aims to become a hub for innovation, research, and skill development in emerging technologies like Cyber-Physical Systems, Internet of Things (IoT), and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Prof. Ankur Gupta, Director, MIET, and Dr. Mukesh Kestwal, Chief Innovation Officer, iHub-AWaDH, IIT Ropar. The event included the signing and exchange of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between MIET and iHub-AWaDH.

Dr. Kestwal highlighted the significance of this collaboration and encouraged students to actively participate in projects and research opportunities offered through the initiative. Prof. Gupta urged students to use the facility as a launchpad for ambitious projects and innovations.

Under the initiative, students developing early-stage prototypes will be eligible for grants of up to ₹5 lakh, while those with viable ideas may receive seed funding of up to ₹20 lakh. Faculty members will also have access to research funding opportunities.
