Land Sinking Damages Houses and School in Ramban’s Tangar, DC Inspects Relief Measures
Ramban, Sept 11: Several residential houses and a government school building suffered serious damage in Tangar area of Ramban district today after a major land sinking incident triggered by recent heavy rainfall.
School Declared Unsafe
Authorities confirmed that Government High School Tangar developed major cracks and was declared unsafe for use. Families residing nearby also reported significant damage to their homes, raising concerns about further collapse if rains continue.
DC Ramban Leads On-Ground Assessment
Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Mohammad Alyas Khan, rushed to the site along with disaster management officials. He was accompanied by Additional SP Mujeeb-Ur-Rehman, ACR Shokat Hayat Mattoo, AD FCS&CA Niamatullah Sheikh, local Tehsildars and engineers from PWD and PMGSY.
The team inspected the extent of damage and reviewed identified safer sites for establishing a lodgement centre for families whose residences may become uninhabitable.
Relief and Safety Measures
The Deputy Commissioner assured residents that protection of human lives is the administration’s foremost priority. He directed officials to:
- Provide immediate relief to the affected families
- Remain prepared for evacuation, if required
- Maintain close monitoring through joint teams of civil and police officials
During his visit, the DC interacted with locals, listened to their concerns, and issued on-the-spot directions for resolving genuine grievances.
MLA Ramban Visits Site
MLA Ramban, Arjun Singh Raju, also visited Tangar to assess the damage and met with the affected residents to express solidarity. He emphasized the need for long-term measures to prevent future incidents of land subsidence in the region.
The district administration continues to monitor the situation and has assured residents of all possible assistance.
