JKCSF Concerned Over Government’s “Non-Seriousness” in Declaring Eid-Milad Holiday

Srinagar, September 5, 2025 — The Jammu and Kashmir Civil Society Forum (JKCSF) has raised concern over what it called the administration’s “non-serious” handling of the Eid-Milad-un-Nabi (SAW) holiday. Chairman Ab Qayoom Wani criticized the government for issuing an incorrect notification regarding the holiday, saying it disrespected religious sentiments of the Muslim community.

Statement from JKCSF

Wani said: “Despite Eid Milad falling on Saturday as per the lunar calendar, the Government failed to synchronize the notification accordingly. This reflects a casual approach towards a sacred day of immense significance.”

He urged the government to adopt a more careful and respectful approach in the future, ensuring that important religious occasions are observed on their actual dates.

Growing Backlash

The mismatch in declaring the holiday has sparked political and social criticism across Jammu and Kashmir. Religious leaders, including the Grand Mufti and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, have also called out the administration for what they termed as disregard for Islamic traditions. (Greater Kashmir)
