ER Rashid Narrowly Escapes Fatal Attack Inside Tihar Jail, AIP Demands Probe

Srinagar / New Delhi, September 5, 2025 — Engineer Rashid, the incarcerated Member of Parliament from Baramulla, narrowly escaped a potentially fatal attack inside Tihar Jail, according to AIP sources. His lawyer has alleged that the assault was orchestrated as part of a targeted campaign against Kashmiri inmates.

Allegations of Targeted Harassment

As per the spokesperson of the Awami Ittehaad Party (AIP), Engineer Rashid revealed to his legal counsel that male “eunuch inmates”, allegedly declared HIV-positive, were deliberately lodged alongside Kashmiri prisoners to provoke and physically attack them. According to the claim, during one such incident, this group hurled a gate at Rashid—a blow that narrowly missed, potentially saving his life.

sinister Campaign Against Kashmiri Detainees?

Rashid reportedly said that longstanding inmates—including Ayoub Pathan (Beerwah), Bilal Mir (Qamarwari), Amir Gojri (Srinagar), and Arshid Tanch (Kupwara)—were repeatedly humiliated or attacked, especially during Zid prayers. He described this as a calculated campaign aimed at creating a hostile detention environment.

AIP's Demand for Probe

The AIP has demanded an immediate and independent investigation into the matter, calling for strict accountability of Tihar jail authorities and assurances for the safety and dignity of Engineer Rashid and all Kashmiri detainees.
