NEW DELHI, Sep 25: The Congress on Thursday held the BJP government responsible for the crisis in Ladakh, a day after violent clashes in Leh left four people dead and over 80 injured, including 40 police personnel.

Pawan Khera, head of Congress’ media and publicity department, said the loss of lives was tragic and a reminder of the government’s failed promises. “In 2019, Parliament was assured that peace would follow after the humiliation inflicted on the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Six years later, the trouble has only deepened,” he said on X.
He alleged that instead of restoring normalcy, the Centre’s “short-sightedness” had pushed both Jammu and Ladakh into unrest. “This crisis is the BJP government’s own creation – one it now seeks to unfairly ignore,” Khera added, stressing that Ladakh’s demand for inclusion under the Sixth Schedule, dignity, and identity protection was “legitimate and just.”
On Wednesday, groups of youths indulged in arson and vandalism, targeting BJP offices and the Hill Council headquarters, and setting vehicles ablaze. Police and paramilitary forces lobbed teargas shells to disperse crowds, while curfew was strictly enforced on Thursday. At least 50 people were detained.
The Union Home Ministry blamed the violence on “provocative statements” by activist Sonam Wangchuk and “politically motivated” individuals, while clarifying that the situation was under control by 4 pm Wednesday. It urged people not to circulate old or misleading videos on social media.
