Blast in Bathinda’s Jida Village Injures Two, Police Probe Radical Links

Chandigarh, Sept 13: A blast in Jida village, Bathinda, has left two persons — Jagtar Singh and his son Gurpreet Singh — hospitalised at AIIMS. The Bathinda police have registered a case against Gurpreet Singh, who is now in custody.

District Police Chief Avneet Kondal said the area was immediately secured and bomb disposal teams, including a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV), were deployed for site investigation. Forensic experts are assisting the probe.

Suspect’s Radical Content Under Scrutiny

A forensic examination of Gurpreet Singh’s mobile phone revealed videos linked to radical ideologies and instructions for making explosives from chemicals. Police are currently verifying the authenticity and source of the content. Authorities have also seized materials allegedly procured by the suspect, which are undergoing forensic testing.

Incriminating Findings

During interrogations, Gurpreet Singh reportedly made incriminating statements. Police also recovered a booked travel ticket from his phone, which is under investigation for possible external connections.

Background of the Accused

According to villagers and family members, Gurpreet Singh had scored well in Class 12 exams and was pursuing a BA LLB degree in his first semester. While considered bright, he was described as reserved and often seen engrossed in his phone.

The investigation is ongoing, with police awaiting detailed forensic reports before drawing final conclusions.
