Peace Committee Head Shot Dead in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

PESHAWAR, Sept 26: A local peace committee chief was gunned down late Thursday night at his residence in Kot Khadak area of Tank district in Pakistan’s restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, police said.

Security forces launched a search operation after the targeted killing of a peace committee chief in Tank district.

The victim has been identified as Salahuddin. District Police Officer Shabbir Hussain Shah said that unidentified gunmen opened fire, killing Salahuddin on the spot and injuring his brother. Both were shifted to the district headquarters hospital for treatment, where doctors confirmed Salahuddin’s death.

Police have launched a massive search operation to nab the attackers, but no arrests have been made so far.

According to officials, Salahuddin had long been on the target list of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in the Tank district due to his active stance against militants and efforts to support peace in the region.
